Some music in Melbourne
I was in Melbourne on the weekend (a 4-day one) for my regular (or it’s getting that way) break-away to get buried in some music, food, beverages and relaxation, with my friend Maddy.
Friday night saw us at the Thornbury Theatre, refurbished and refreshed by the very talented Andrew McCubbin, to see Dave Graney and his band – The Lurid Yellow Mist. Dave just can’t seem to put a foot wrong. Cool seems silly and simplistic to say, but he really is VERY cool.
Maddy dictated this to me:
“Graney will be cool even when he turns 120. The Lurid Yellow Mist is a really accomplished group of songwriters and musicians and they were a perfect accompaniment to the confident swaggering remarkable Dave Graney. He played Night of the Wolverine for his last encore and also played plenty of fast edgy tracks from their new album. Go Dave!”
“… And McCubbin’s venue is a remarkable old world relic that has been scrubbed up beautifully and provides the perfect mood for bands like this.”

We were also very lucky to see one of our favourite groups – The Holy Sea. It was hot in Melbourne already, so it was showing some commitment (and even more so of the band) to sit in the scorching small (but simply fantastic) courtyard of Pure Pop Records.

Sunday arvo we spent some time at the Espy and I took a few pics of the mysterious corridors. All these photos are not of a great quality, but I’m just happy to have captured some good memories.
