Glenn Brady

glenn-brady-where-i-wandered Glenn Brady’s work has been widely exhibited around Australia including solo shows at Mahoneys Galleries (Melbourne) and Metro Arts (Brisbane). He has also had a solo show in Virginia, United States. He’s twice (2007 and 2009) been a finalist in the Churchie National Emerging Art Exhibition (2007 and 2009).

Such powerful art! Of course I can see the influences of Picasso, Chagall, Munch. These paintings transcend their influences. I love them.
- Sally Trace, Philadelphia, USA.

Glenn was raised in Brisbane and now resides in Cabarita, New South Wales. He spends a great deal of his time in his studio, with his dog Larry, producing large acrylics and pastel works on canvas. He also shows much generosity, including donating work to the Big Issue Big Art auction and the Spare Parts exhibition.

Glenn Brady is an outstanding Australian talent. He works like a man driven to purge emotions onto his canvas, constantly and prolifically.  His works over-ride language barriers and speak to all of us on a much deeper level reminding us of places we have been, either in our waking hours or in our dreams/nightmares.
His work is bold, colourful and visually startling at times but always beautiful. Glenn has been compared to several of the old masters but I believe that his style is all his own and each painting comes straight from his soul.

- Kate Carey-Peters, Melbourne.

I’m a huge fan of Glenn’s work and I feel compelled to spread the word. On a recent Sunday evening, beverages in hand, Glenn and I had a chat about some of the things that influence his art as well as why ‘art’ is not a concept that sits very comfortably with him. Here is part of that conversation. Read the rest of this entry →

The Twoks in a backyard

I first heard about The Twoks via Joe Nuttall of Enola Fall (when he posted about playing with them).  I was taken by ”Sailing Away”. I then saw an update from Brisbane Festival that The Twoks were going to be playing in the next Suburb from me, Carina, as part of ‘Brisbane Backyards’ – which is a great Brisbane Festival initiative. So, last night I saw the trio live for the first time. Read the rest of this entry →

Watching the development of a portrait

The Art Shed in Brisbane yesterday ran a free demo of a portrait being painted in oils.

Loved it and wrote a few words on it on a RedBubble journal page here.

Twestival

I went along to the Brisbane Twestival (BNETwestival) on Thursday night.

A great night, meeting up with people I’ve been connecting with on Twitter for months now. A glorious inspiring geekfest.

Some music in Melbourne

I was in Melbourne on the weekend (a 4-day one) for my regular (or it’s getting that way) break-away to get buried in some music, food, beverages and relaxation, with my friend Maddy.

Friday night saw us at the Thornbury Theatre, refurbished and refreshed by the very talented Andrew McCubbin, to see Dave Graney and his band – The Lurid Yellow Mist. Dave just can’t seem to put a foot wrong. Cool seems silly and simplistic to say, but he really is VERY cool. Read the rest of this entry →
